Mac mini M4 Rental

A Mac mini M4 rental is the simplest way to get your own Apple silicon Mac in the cloud. It is our entry machine: 16GB of unified memory and a 256GB SSD, from $119/mo.

What you get

  • One dedicated physical Mac mini M4. It is assigned to you alone. It is not a virtual machine and it is not shared.
  • 16GB unified memory and a 256GB SSD in the starting configuration. More memory or storage is available on request.
  • A full macOS desktop and terminal. Install Xcode, Homebrew, CI runners, Ollama or anything else you need.
  • Remote access set up for you. SSH, Screen Sharing (VNC), AnyDesk, RustDesk, Parsec, Chrome Remote Desktop and other tools, depending on what we configure for your Mac.
  • Flexible terms. Month to month, or a lower monthly price on 6 or 12 months.

What the M4 handles well

The M4 is a capable machine. For many small teams it is all the Mac they need.

  • iOS and macOS builds for one app. Archive, sign, notarise and upload from a real Mac. See Xcode build server for a typical setup.
  • A single CI runner. One GitHub Actions self-hosted runner or GitLab runner, processing jobs one at a time.
  • Remote development and testing. Safari checks, macOS-only tools, simulator runs and debugging from any computer.
  • Small local language models. With 16GB, 7–8B models at 4-bit run comfortably in Ollama or LM Studio. See Mac mini LLM server.
  • Automation. Scheduled scripts, Shortcuts, macOS-only command line tools and a staging machine that is always on.

When to step up to the M6

Most people outgrow the M4 for one of three reasons. Watch for these signs.

  1. Memory pressure. If Activity Monitor shows memory pressure in yellow or red while Xcode, a simulator and a browser are open, 16GB is tight. The Mac mini M6 with 24GB is the usual fix.
  2. Disk space. Xcode, a few simulator runtimes and DerivedData can fill 256GB quickly. The 24GB M6 comes with 512GB.
  3. Queue time. If CI jobs wait in line, a newer-generation chip shortens each job, and more memory lets you run two runners side by side.

If you are unsure, start with the M4 month to month. You will know within a few weeks whether it keeps up.

Keeping 256GB tidy

A little housekeeping goes a long way on the entry machine:

  • Remove simulator runtimes you do not test against with xcrun simctl delete unavailable.
  • Clear old build products in ~/Library/Developer/Xcode/DerivedData on a schedule.
  • Keep only the Xcode versions your projects still use.

FAQ

Is a Mac mini M4 rental a shared machine?

No. You get one physical Mac mini M4 that is assigned only to you. It is not a virtual machine.

Can I rent the Mac mini M4 month to month?

Yes. Month to month is $149. A 6-month term is $139 per month and a 12-month term is $119 per month.

Is 16GB enough for Xcode?

For a single app and one simulator at a time, usually yes. If you run several simulators, large projects or two CI runners at once, consider the 24GB Mac mini M6.

Can I move to an M6 later?

Each plan is a separate physical Mac, so moving means setting up a new machine. You can order an M6 at any time and cancel the M4 at the end of its term in your account. Open a support ticket if you want help planning the switch.
