Apple Silicon Server Rental

An Apple silicon server rental gives you a dedicated Mac mini or Mac Studio in the cloud, running macOS on ARM64. Our range covers six plans, from a 16GB Mac mini M4 at $119/mo to a 96GB Mac Studio M5 Ultra.

Why Apple silicon for server work

Apple silicon Macs differ from typical x86 servers in a few ways that matter in practice.

ARM64 throughout

The CPU uses the ARM64 instruction set. Code built here is native for every current Mac, iPhone and iPad, which is why iOS and macOS builds must run on a Mac. Most modern toolchains, including Swift, Go, Rust, Node.js, Python and Java, ship native ARM64 builds.

Unified memory

CPU and GPU share one pool of memory. There is no separate graphics memory to fill and no copying of data between the two. For machine learning this means a model can use most of the machine's memory, so a 96GB Mac can hold models that would need several discrete GPUs elsewhere.

Efficiency

Apple silicon does a lot of work for little power and stays quiet under sustained load. Machines run steadily for long builds and long inference jobs without the throttling you may see on a laptop.

Choosing by workload

  • CI/CD and builds: start with a Mac mini M6. Move to the M5 Pro for large codebases. See macOS CI/CD runner.
  • Remote desktop work: the 24GB M6 is a comfortable daily machine.
  • Local AI: pick by model size. 16GB fits roughly 7–8B models at 4-bit, 24GB up to about 14B, 36GB about 30B, and 96GB the 70B class. See Apple silicon AI server.
  • Many machines: see Mac mini cluster and Mac cluster hosting.

ARM-native toolchains

To get the most from an Apple silicon server, keep your stack native:

  • Homebrew installs to /opt/homebrew on Apple silicon. Make sure your scripts use that path.
  • Containers: use linux/arm64 images where possible. Most official images publish them.
  • Python: use an ARM64 Python and wheels. Check with python3 -c "import platform; print(platform.machine())", which should print arm64.
  • Check any binary with file or lipo -archs to see whether it is arm64, x86_64 or universal.

A note on Rosetta 2

Rosetta 2 translates Intel (x86_64) macOS apps so they run on Apple silicon. Install it with softwareupdate --install-rosetta. It works well for older tools, but it adds overhead and is not a way to run x86 operating systems such as Windows. Treat it as a bridge, and move to ARM64 builds when you can.

FAQ

What is an Apple silicon server rental?

A dedicated Mac mini or Mac Studio with an Apple silicon chip, hosted by us and assigned to you alone, with remote access and a full macOS desktop and terminal.

Can I run Linux on these machines?

The machines run macOS. You can run Linux in containers or virtual machines on top of macOS using ARM64 images.

Do Intel-only apps work?

Most do through Rosetta 2, with some overhead. Native ARM64 builds are faster and are recommended.

Which plans can I rent month to month?

The Mac mini M4 and both Mac mini M6 plans. The M5 Pro, M5 Max and M5 Ultra are on 6- and 12-month terms.

Can I order several machines?

Yes. For multi-machine or bulk quotes, contact us with what you need.
