Mac mini M6 Rental

A Mac mini M6 rental gives you a newer-generation Apple silicon Mac in the cloud, in two configurations. Pick 16GB with 256GB for lean workloads, or 24GB with 512GB, our most popular plan.

The two Mac mini M6 configurations

Both are the same newer-generation M6 chip. The difference is memory and storage, which matters more than most people expect.

Both can be rented month to month. Each is a dedicated physical Mac assigned to you alone, with a full macOS desktop and terminal.

Choose the 16GB M6 if

  • You need a fast, single-purpose CI runner that builds one project at a time. The newer chip shortens each job compared with the Mac mini M4.
  • Your builds are clean each time and you do not keep large caches on disk.
  • You use the Mac for remote testing or macOS-only tools rather than a full IDE session all day.
  • You want small local models (roughly 7–8B at 4-bit) for experiments.

Choose the 24GB M6 if

  • You use it as a daily remote workstation: Xcode, two simulators, a browser and Slack open together.
  • You want two CI runners on one machine. Each runner needs its own memory headroom, and 24GB makes that realistic.
  • You keep warm caches: DerivedData, Swift packages, CocoaPods, Gradle or npm. 512GB gives them room and makes incremental builds much faster.
  • You want mid-size local models. With 24GB, models up to roughly 14B at 4-bit fit, depending on context length.

The 24GB plan is the most popular for a simple reason: it removes the two common bottlenecks, memory and disk, for a modest step in price.

A quick way to decide

  1. On your current Mac, run a typical build and watch Activity Monitor. If memory used goes well past 12GB, choose 24GB.
  2. Check the size of your DerivedData, package caches and simulator runtimes. If together they pass about 120GB, choose 512GB.
  3. Count how many jobs you want to run at once. More than one usually means 24GB.

If none of these apply, the 16GB M6 is a good, efficient choice.

Running two runners on the 24GB M6

A common setup is two self-hosted runners on one Mac, each in its own directory and user account:

~/runner-a # label: macos-m6-a
~/runner-b # label: macos-m6-b

Give each runner its own DerivedData path with -derivedDataPath so jobs do not fight over the same cache. See GitHub Actions Mac runner for the full steps, and the GitHub self-hosted runner docs for the registration commands.

Beyond the M6

If you need more processing power than the M6 offers, the Mac mini M5 Pro (24GB, 512GB) has a Pro-class chip and is available on 6- and 12-month terms. For large memory needs, look at the Mac Studio M5 Max.

FAQ

What is the difference between the two Mac mini M6 rental plans?

The chip is the same. The 16GB plan has a 256GB SSD; the 24GB plan has a 512GB SSD. The 24GB plan suits workstations, parallel runners and warm caches.

Can I rent the Mac mini M6 month to month?

Yes. The 16GB plan is $169 monthly and the 24GB plan is $209 monthly. 6- and 12-month terms cost less per month.

Can I get more storage than 512GB?

More memory or storage is available on request. Tell us what you need on the contact page and we will quote it.

Is the M6 a virtual machine?

No. Each plan is a dedicated physical Mac mini assigned to one customer.
